Tell all your cool friends!!!

An excerpt from the new article released on Tico Times all about Brewha!

On a cliff overlooking the lush Orosi Valley, Brewha boasts killer views of the nearby El Salto waterfall and Ujarras ruins. Hammocks dangle and bamboo lookout platforms perch beneath a blue flag emblazoned with the Brewha logo, which features a tapir inscribed in a bottle cap (Weintraub thinks the sloth gets too much attention). The building looks more like a young boy's dream treehouse than a hostel, a style supported by its owners' constant stream of projects.
"Zach is a little bit ADD, so we like to call him the idea machine," Weintraub said.
A potato gun, a sling shot and a trebuchet (a type of catapult) are on Boyd's list for future projects. The hostel is also planning less violent improvements, Weintraub said.

Kitten Caboodle!

Sunday June 9th, it was a long and exciting hiking adventure and team Brewha were on their way back to the house for some much needed showers and welcome back cocktails when what it this we see in the drainage next to the road? Three tiny kittens! They haven't all been named yet since they are only about 5 days old and they are not identifiable yet, but here are the new additions to the Brewha Crew!

Oh Glory Day!!!

The long awaited train between San Jose and Caratgo has FINALLY commenced! We now know this for sure because we actually took it!!!  Costing little over $1 (₡550), the train now gets you between these two provinces in just about 43 minutes. First train leaves Cartago at 5:30am and arrives in San Jose at the Estación del Atlántico at about 6:13am. The train then runs ever 30 minutes until 8:00am.
Since it's a commuter train, it only starts again at 4:00pm and runs ever 30 minutes until 7:30pm so don't count on using the train in between 8-4.

Getting to Brewha in these peak hours will be sooo much faster and easier now since these are the times when the bus from San Jose to Cartago can take anywhere from 1 hour to 3 hours due to the INSANE rush hour traffic!

For any further questions about the train service or station locations, just ask us, or google it.. I mean come on... :)

World Press Freedom Day 2013

This year, San Jose is hosting the 20th World Press Freedom Day International Conference hosted by UNESCO. This year the theme for the conference is “Safe to Speak: Securing Freedom of Expression in All Media” and this year Brewha’s very own Jaclyn (moi) will be participating in the conference reporting and writing for the conference’s newsletter! Since my major in university was in Communications and Media Studies, I am very very excited and honored to be a part of such an amazing event! Also, now my dad is relieved that I’m finally doing something relevant to all that tuition money he paid, I mean my 4 years of studies!

To read more about it, visit UNESCO’s page here!

A time lapse experiment!

The weather has been pretty crappy the last few days, but we still had fun playing around with our friend's GoPro Camera!! Take a look!

Even though...

It's been wet and grey the past few days, we have had a silver lining! We have had the opportunity and honor in meeting Matias.

Meet Matias, an Italian national traveling around the world on bicycle! His adventure on this side of the world began in Ushuaia, Argentina, the southern most city in the world! He is 25,000 kms into his trip, and having finished conquering South America, is making his way up to Anchorage, Alaska checking off cities all around Canada and the U.S.A on his way there.

We wish you all the best in your adventure Matias, and thank you for including Brewha in your world wide extravaganza!

On a clear day...

All the beautiful birds that sneak around the tree tops linger around just long enough to go grab your camera and hold your own personal photo shoot!

The Great Kiskadee! Named after it's famous song, "kis-ka-deee!!!"

The Yellow-throated Euphonia, "a skilled mimic of the simple calls of other birds."

New Map of Orosi Valley!

There will be a new more beautiful and more helpful map of the Orosi Valley printed next month and Brewha has an exclusive sneak peak at it!

Since Pete's mom, the lovely Joan Gray is visiting us this week, we have had the amazing privilege of having  access to a car! So we've taken this opportunity to drive around the valley and take note of how long the drive is to some of the most interesting places to visit along the loop of the valley. Our contribution to the new map below gives our guests an idea of how long it takes to drive to these places to help better plan their trips!

Paraiso -> Mirrador Ujarras (7 min.)
Mirrador Ujarras -> Brewha (3 min.)
Brewha -> Cachi Dam (8 min.)

Go Team!

Either we've been getting the most amazing guests ever, or we've just been doing it right (I personally think both), but we've been getting the best, most glowing reviews on Tripadvisor! So thank you thank you thank you to everyone who has stayed here at Brewha over the last little while, and thank you so much for your support and friendship! Reviews on Tripadvisor!

One of the (MANY) things that we've been getting positive feedback on has been the food that we prepare here at Brewha. And by we, we mean primarily Zach, the master chef, so we've started to document and photograph all the dishes that go out at meal time so that we can share Zach's talents and gifts with all our friends out on the interweb! So check it out and salivate away!  The Food at Brewha!

Also, a very warm (and sunburned) welcome to the newest member of the Brewha Crew..Harry Taylor Boyd!!!
