Christmas Awesomeness!

Christmas was so much fun that we're all sad to see it go! There were decorations, a homemade Christmas tree made of bamboo and palm leaves, individually decorated stockings hung up, eggnog, AND presents for all the guests to open on Christmas morning! Zach served up the best Asian Fusion Christmas dinner of Peking Duck, carrot and ginger soup, Chinese pork stuffed dumplings, sesame mashed potatoes, braised bok choi with pork, stir fried green beans, and everything covered in duck gravy!!!!

Not only did we get our first walk-ins, but they just happened to be the most adventurous and exciting guests to date! Meet Bryan and Diana, from Cape town, South Africa. Bryan and Diana have been traveling for a long time! Starting in Buenos Aires, and going down to Ushuaia and back up, they are making their way to Anchorage Alaska, and then across to the Eastern coast of Canada. All in this incredible beast of a land rover! We wish you all the best guys, safe travels!!!!

Our hike!

It was one of those rainy, chilly days in the valley,  and we had some new guests, so obviously we decided the best thing to do this afternoon was to do the hike that goes from our property down the the ruins of the oldest church in Costa Rica, The Ruins of Ujarras. With the help of a rope, a shovel and a machete, we managed to get through the jungle, down the side of a mountain, across a river and through a chayote field to the church. We did a little bit of sliding, some shimmying, and some rappelling, and we ended up turning a gloomy afternoon into an opportunity for a fun spontaneous adventure hike!!! Here are some of the highlights!

First REAL booking!!!

Had a very busy and awesome last few days. We had a bunch of friends coming up to spend a few days with us, and then BOOM, a real booking came through on hostelworld and we had our first random guests! Not only did we have a full house last night, but an hour after our FIRST GUESTS EVER arrived, the water stopping running and the power went out and non stop rain the next day!  We trucked on and eventually the power came back on and while we went a while without water and the weather didn't clear up until AFTER they left today, it was still a great time and everything went really well!

Another family dinner with some special guests!

We had another delicious family dinner last night thanks to Chef Zach! Last night we also welcomed some new guests, Sam from Massachusetts, and the ever popular...

Fearless Luke!

If you don't know Luke, then you should be ashamed of yourself. He's the coolest, most badass kid in Costa Rica! Who knows another 2 year old who can chop wood with a machete, use said wood to make a fire, and then fearlessly picks up beetles while surrounding adults squirm and run away? No one I tell you... no one.
